Economic Development
The Town of Smyrna has benefited greatly by the presence of military aviation and the Sewart Air Force Base. Military infrastructure to support a large base of operation included electric power grids, water and sewer, roads, and of course the Smyrna Airport. This infrastructure has led Smyrna, Tennessee to become an attractive location for the manufacturing, logistics, and distribution industry. Leading companies such as Nissan, Franke Foods, Taylor Farms, Topre America, Steel Technologies, and Schneider Electric, among others, have all found Smyrna and Rutherford County to be a suitable location for their operations. This is due in large part to the history and infrastructure first started by the military aviation in the area.
